Pure Ibiza 94.7
A new EP, ‘Amapiano to Ibiza,’ has been announced, featuring amapiano reinterpretations of classic Ibiza house tracks. This concept release is a collaboration between Armada Music, Warner Music Africa, and Africori, a platform supporting independent African artists and labels worldwide. The project aims to honor amapiano’s house music roots by merging iconic house classics with amapiano sounds.
The collaboration comes at a time when amapiano is experiencing a surge in popularity. Originating in South Africa in the mid-2010s, this house music subgenre has captured global attention. In 2023 alone, amapiano tracks generated 1.4 billion streams on Spotify, marking an impressive growth rate of 5,668% since 2018. Known for its infectious rhythms and cultural significance, amapiano has led to partnerships with major international artists and appearances at prominent music festivals around the world, extending its influence far beyond Africa.
The first track from the EP, a reimagining of Human Resource’s ‘Dominator’ by Rosey Gold and Jay Music, is now available. The full EP is set to launch later this summer, with reinterpretations rolling out ahead of the final release. Artists involved in the project include DBN Gogo, Kelvin Momo, Thuto The Human, and 2woBunnies. Tracks from Armada’s discography, including those by Dennis Ferrer, Blaze, and Inner City, will be recreated in this unique collaboration.
Maykel Piron, CEO of Armada Music Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are delighted to announce this innovative collaboration with Warner Music Africa and Africori. House music has been adopted and adapted by various genres worldwide over the years, and this project underscores its potential to transcend traditional genre boundaries once again. We are excited to continue our mission to insert creativity into our extensive catalog and breathe new life into classic dance music.”
‘Dominator,’ the lead track from ‘Amapiano to Ibiza,’ is available now via OUT OF ORDER. Check it out here.
