Privilege Ibiza’s Renovations Spark Reopening Speculations

today15/07/2024

Background

In a significant development for Ibiza’s nightlife scene, the iconic Privilege club has been undergoing renovations, fueled by an €8.2 million grant from the local government. This funding, announced in November 2023, aims to upgrade the club’s water and solar energy systems as part of a broader initiative to rejuvenate the island’s tourist attractions.

Mariano Juan, the Minister of Tourism Planning, emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing and making tourist establishments more sustainable without expanding the number of tourist places. This initiative includes funding for other local establishments such as San Antonio’s Palladium del Hotel Palmyra and Apartamentos Es Cantó in Playa d’en Bossa.

Speculations on Privilege’s Reopening

Recent updates have fueled rumors about Privilege’s potential reopening. Facebook posts from June 2022 indicated ongoing renovations, and the club’s website has featured a prominent “COMING SOON” message, bolstering rumours that the Ibiza institution might be set to re-open in 2024.

Privilege’s license was suspended in 2018 due to illegal structural alterations intended to increase its capacity. In 2019, the last year it operated, parts of the venue remained closed for safety reasons. In 2024, Grupo Empresas Matutes, through Bahía de San Antonio SA, acquired full ownership of the club, adding another layer of intrigue to its potential reopening.

As Ibiza eagerly anticipates the return of one of its most legendary nightclubs, the rumored renovations and investment underscore a significant effort to revive this iconic Ibiza venue.
